CM Demands Probe into Removal of Public Property from Sports Directorate

PESHAWAR: In a concerning development, a large quantity of saria and pipes were allegedly removed from the Provincial Sports Directorate on March 5, 2024, raising questions about misappropriation of public property.

Reports suggest that the materials were loaded onto a vehicle and directed to the residence of a former sports secretary, where they were supposedly intended for the construction of a private tennis court.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressing his disapproval of the incident, has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. He has specifically directed authorities to determine the identity of the secretary who received the materials, highlighting that they belong to the Provincial Sports Directorate and represent an investment of public funds.

According to sources within the sports community, concerns exist regarding a potential cover-up attempt. They point towards the Chief Minister’s previous stance against corruption, urging him to take immediate action. They also express apprehension that the Sports Directorate administration might try to deny the incident, citing limited camera footage retention of only six days.

This incident highlights the need for transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. The investigation demanded by the Chief Minister is expected to shed light on the matter and ensure that appropriate action is taken to protect public funds and prevent any misuse of government property.
